Antique Silver Onyx Marcasite Lorgnette Folding Spectacles Opera Glasses Pendant
Fantastic museum quality antique piece, possibly made in Europe (Germany?)
Lorgnette pendant marked 835 silver. Measures 3" x 0.75" when closed. Hidden lever opens it and spring mechanism opens up glasses that measure 3 3/8" long
Necklace is 30" long plus 5" drop
Filigree clasp is sterling silver, beads are strung on black silk cord, faceted
black
beads appear to be glass, their shapes is not uniformed and facets are not sharp. Beads have chips noticeable under magnification.
Ribbed melon Bohemian garnet color glass beads also have small chips
noticeable
under magnification.
Lorgnette can be dated anywhere from late Victorian to early Art Deco era. I don't know if the necklace was made as one piece or the lorgnette was added at later time.
