Description

I am offering this antique set of coral jewelry that was made for a young child or baby in the mid-Victorian era.  Coral was believed to promote good health and it was often gifted and worn by babies for this reason.  This set consists of two tiny bracelets and a necklace.  They have 18k yellow gold fittings and clasp.  The tiny bracelets measure 3.75" long and the necklace is 12.25" long.  There is a note of provenance stating that this set was given to Lucinda Wynne in 1866.  The two bracelets can be placed together and worn as one when the child grows older.
Gold and gemstone grade red coral were costly materials, as was the labor of the goldsmiths and jewelers who crafted these high status christening gifts for the children of wealthy families.
