Please understand that eBay has made a decision to no longer permit Confederate battle flag and related listings. We believe the image of the flag itself has become a contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism. This is not a reflection or judgement on anyone selling the item and we respect that there are a wide variety of opinions on this issue. We thank you for your understanding and ask you to please not list these kinds of items.

Own A Part Of Confederate History
General John Bell Hood holds the distinction of being one of the most rapidly promoted leaders in the Confederate military forces during the Civil War. Born in Owingsville, Kentucky in 1831, he pursued a military career early on, graduating from West Point at the age of 22. When war officially began in April 1861 Hood was unwilling to either continue to serve in the United States army, or to maintain the neutrality of his native Kentucky. He decided instead to resign his commission in the US military and became a Confederate Cavalry Captain. He was soon promoted to Colonel, commanding the Texas 4th Infantry.

On February 20, 1862 Hood was elevated to brigade command in the Confederate Army of the Potomac, whereupon he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General 11 days later.

Hood distinguished himself as commander of what had come to be known as the "Texas Brigade" during the Peninsula Campaign, firmly establishing his reputation as an aggressive commander who was willing and even eager to personally lead his troops into combat.
During the Battle of Antietam, Hood's division came to the relief of "Stonewall" Jackson's corps on the left flank of the Confederate line, arriving in time to turn back an assault in the West Woods by the Union I Corps. His division subsequently engaged the Union XII Corps and sustained 50% casualties in the ensuing fighting. That evening, after the battle had come to a close, when Hood was asked by Lee where his division was he responded, "They are lying on the field where you sent them. My division has been almost wiped out."
Jackson was so impressed with Hood's performance at Antietam that he personally recommended his promotion to Major General, which was made official effective October 10, 1862.
This lot is for Items 1&2: one exceptional photograph with the signature
of General John Bell Hood sitting, actually wearing his custom made belt buckle (made in London, England) with General Hood’s signature on the photograph. This photographic was most likely taken in January of 1864 in Richmond while General Hood was recovering from the loss of his right leg (4 inches below his hip) in the Battle of Chickamauga on Sept 20,1863. The other photograph #2 (taken at the same time does not have his signature) is of General Hood standing with the support of crouches, unsigned approximately 6 x 8 inches. He appears to have some use of his left arm that was severely injured at Gettysburg. On February 4,1864 he was promoted and took over the Army of Tennessee.
The signature is brown because the ink that was used had high iron content and rusted over time. The image (item 1 sitting) is approximately 8 x 10 1/4 inches.
Printed on satin finish archival paper  (260gsm, 11 mil sheet) with archival inks and UV sprayed.
This is a Museum quality print reproduction. It comes in an archival glassine envelope for added protection and shipped with stiffeners for added protection against being bent.
    Note
: General Hood did not sign this photograph; he is in no condition to sign it. His signature has been duplicated and carefully applied to the image. This is a 21
    st
    Century digital archival print.
With this lot of two (2) images of General Hood comes a copy of the Belt buckle he is wearing. It is not the original, it is a copy made in the 21
    st
Century. It is made to the highest standards. The wreath and flag are nickel-plated brass and applied to the antiqued solid brass pebbled finished base.
The original buckle, the wreath and flag were made of Sterling silver. The
duplicate is in nickel plated brass that wears much better and never needs polishing.
    Approximate Buckle size: 1 3/4 x 2 ½ inches. This is a two-piece buckle.
    The copy of General
Hood’s Brass Belt Plate/Buckle with applied nickel silver flag & wreath. This is a two (2)-piece buckle.
The buckle has been made and antiqued by the best maker in the industry; the LCT (Louis Comfort Tiffany) of Buckles himself for this store.
The rubber mold for the flag and wreath were made at The Museum of the Confederacy. Considering the original is over a 150 years and has been polished and re-polished this copy is truly outstanding and is an improvement over the original and how it would look today as if it just arrived from London, England.
The original Buckle is one of the

The photograph of the buckle with the belt is for educational purposes and is an informative visual of how the buckle looks on a Galco belt. The belt is not included in this lot. You will need this or a similar belt to use this two piece buckle.
If you need a great belt to accent this buckle, take a look at “
    Galco Adjustable Shell Pouch Belt”
on Amazon. Looks fantastic with any two-piece buckle. It’s what I wear.

You will also receive an interesting story about General J.B Hood and his belt buckle.
Hood's critics frequently cite his academic performance at West Point as an indicator of diminished intellect. Hood indeed graduated 44th of 52 in the West Point Class of 1853. However, what is never mentioned is that the Class of 1853 started with a total of 93 cadets in 1849, and of the 41 cadets who did not graduate, the vast majority were expelled for academic or disciplinary performance. It would be more accurate to view Hood as ranked 44th out of 93 original cadets in his class.
What makes these prints so different form others? It has been made directly from a digital file of
the glass, wet collodion negative made over 145 years ago or in some instances a print. It has been meticulously retouched and restored. The average file producing the final print is over one gigabit in size and it is 16bit file for the finest detail.  This is a reproduction made in the 21st Century. General Hood in his present condition was unable to sign this photograph. I have applied his signature to this image of him.

    SOME people
seem a little confused as to my descriptions: (I want nobody to be disappointed in there purchase, I take great pride in what I do).
What you see, is what you get, the image on eBay is the PRODUCT you will receive, and in all cases better. I have described in great detail each item and exactly what it is. If you have any requests or questions please do not hesitate to ask before you order, I will be happy to answer them.
    Know what you are buying.
    It is a
    Museum Quality print
made and restored from a digital file using the old glass negative and in rare instances a print, it is
    NOT
an original made in the 1860's, it is a
    restored
archival reproduction, with the General's signature carefully applied, not some cheap print. It's amusing that no matter how times I write in the description, the signature has been applied, there are those that order a print and actually expect an original print made in the 1860's and signed by the officer in the image. An original print with the officers signature would be worth many thousands of dollars. America is a wonderful place.
The Confederate Flag is on display for educational and display purposes and does not come with this lot. Again, if you have any questions please ask. Been removed.
