This is a beautiful antique late Georgian or Early Victorian Smokey Citrine Maltese Cross. The subtle rose gold settings compliment the citrine perfectly and really bring out the golden hues of the stones. The gold has been acid tested as about 9k gold. The citrines are most probably Cairngorms.
Cairngorm is the name given to a citrine quartz variety with an amber or brown color traditionally mined in the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland. Queen Victoria loved gemstones and was particularly fond of Citrine because it was a local stone from the Cairngorms. It led to its use for kilt pins and brooches in Scotland particularly. Likewise skilled craftsmen making swords used it in Scotland for making sword handles. Their popularity led to the local source becoming overworked and heat-treated Brazillian amethysts or glass are now often used as imitations.

1.5 inches N-S from the bail to the gold ball on the Southern most tip.
