Confederate Flag Removed
Please understand that eBay has made a decision to no longer permit Confederate battle flag and related listings. We believe the image of the flag itself has become a contemporary symbol of divisiveness and racism. This is not a reflection or judgement on anyone selling the item and we respect that there are a wide variety of opinions on this issue. We thank you for your understanding and ask you to please not list these kinds of items.

Lt. General Richard Taylor – This is an extremely rare photograph of Lt. Gen’l Dick Taylor (my 8th cousin) in a Confederate Uniform. Now with his signature. Judging by the quality of the photograph I would say it was taken at the very beginning of the war. Maybe when he was a Colonel.
Richard Taylor, Confederate general, only son of Margaret Mackall (Smith) and President Zachary Taylor. He was also the x brother in law of President Jefferson Davis, CSA. Jefferson Davis was married to his sister
Sarah Knox Taylor
who prematurely passed away (
September 15, 1835)
.
One of only three Generals to achieve the rank of Lieutenant General (promoted that rank on April 8, 1864) without formal military training, i.e., West Point, V. M. I. Though he was educated at Harvard and finished at Yale. He was also a member of Skull and Bones, a very exclusive social club at Yale still in existence today. The other two were Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and Lt. Gen. Wade Hampton.
With no prior military experience, Richard Taylor rose from Colonel to Lieutenant General because of his ideas on strategy and the brilliant generalship he demonstrated on the field of battle. During the war, Taylor exhibited all the traits of an exceptional military leader: intelligence, education, courage, and character. He never suffered a crushing defeat even though he met with reverses. Time and again he beat the enemy and carved his name among those of the most outstanding Confederate generals.
I found a quote by General Nathan Bedford Forrest regarding Taylor:
He
commented that: "He's the biggest man in the lot. If we'd had more like him, we would have licked the Yankees long ago”.
For some unknown reason General Taylor chose to reverse the colors on his Confederate Battle flag. It is possible that he had a lot of Texans in his Army. Some Texas units had a similar battle flag.
This lot is for one (1) photograph. Approximate size
8 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches
printed on satin finish archival paper
(260 gsm, 11
mil
thick sheet)
with archival inks. Each photo comes in an archival acid free glassine envelope,
with
General Taylor’s signature.
His signature is in brown to simulate what happened to the ink after a period of time. The actual ink was purple/blue with a high iron content that rusted and turned brown after a long period of time.
The Priority Mail Envelope is clearly marked
Photo Do Not Bend
and placed between two pieces of corrugated cardboard for addition protection.
Each CSA Signature Series photograph comes with a short excerpt out Southern Civil War history describing the heroic figure with an appropriate Confederate flag (as above) at the head of the sheet. Tastefully printed on grey cover stock, suitable for framing.
General Taylor did not sign this image it has been applied.

Errata
SOME people
seem a little confused as to my descriptions: (I want nobody to be disappointed in there purchase, I take great pride in what I do).
Let me make myself perfectly clear. What you see, is what you get, the image on eBay is the PRODUCT you will receive, and in all cases better. I have described in great detail each item and exactly what it is. If you have any requests or questions please do not hesitate to ask before you order, I will be happy to answer them.
Know what you are buying.
It is what it is, a
Museum Quality print
made and restored from a digital file using the old glass negative and in rare instances a print, it is
NOT
an original print made in the 1860's or 1870's and restored, (seems I had one buyer expecting an original restored print made in 1870 with actual signatures for .95, America is a wonderful place) it is a
restored
archival digital reproduction, not some cheap print. If you want cheap, shoddy prints, they are everywhere, not here.
Again, if have any questions please ask.
Thank you for looking.
