Description

This gemstone is a pretty orange Sphene also known as Titanite. Sphenes are collector gemstones that are loved and admired for their high dispersion giving them lots of sparkle when the light hits them. This little gem appears eye clean, but like most Sphenes, it does have inclusions that can be detected under 10X magnification. This little gem measures about 9x8mm and is 5mm deep - you can see the exact measurements in the photos where the gem is in the mm gauge. It weighs about 2.42cts. Most Sphenes are not treated, but occasionally some are heat treated to enhance their color which is an basic treatment very often used in the gem trade. I am not certain whether this one is heated or not. Sphenes are soft stones, so if you are going to use it in jewelry it is best to take extra care when setting the gem and best to put them in a pendent. However, I have seen rings set with Sphenes - often with a setting a bit higher than the stone to offer some extra protection when worn on active fingers.
I have decided to sell some gemstones that at one time I had the intention to use, but never got around to it. I always say the weight is "about" a certain amount of carats because I realize that not all weight scales weigh in exactly the same and can be off by a tiny fraction up or down, but all in all the weight calculations are fairly accurate.
Please note I am not a gem dealer, although I probably have more knowledge about stones than most people since I have been collecting stones my entire life and studied color stones with the GIA. I'm just selling a few pieces I that never had the opportunity to use, and I'd like to see them go to someone who will enjoy and use them. I am not a store so I do not accept returns, as my goal is to thin out my collections, so please be sure you really love this gemstone before you buy it. To put your mind at ease about "no returns", if you find that any information about the materials in this item are not as described, which more than likely will not happen since I take lots of time in describing my pieces, I might consider a return, but I do not except returns if you have buyer's regret or if something doesn't fit, so please read the description carefully and feel free to ask any questions before you bid or buy.
