Man sentenced to 14½ years for carjacking and shooting spree in Gold Coast

CHICAGO (CBS) — A man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison, after pleading guilty to federal charges in connection with a shooting and carjacking spree in 2018.
In May, 30-year-old Earrious Moore pleaded guilty to two counts of carjacking; one count of attempted carjacking; and one count of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Elaine Bucklo sentenced Moore to 14 ½ years in prison.
Federal prosecutors said Moore stole three cars, tried to steal two others, and shot three people on the same afternoon on April 26, 2018.
Prosecutors said it all started when Moore shot his brother in the arm, then “went on a violent carjacking rampage in the Gold Coast neighborhood,” before he was arrested in a building lobby on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
After shooting his brother, Moore stole a 2011 Jeep Patriot Sport at gunpoint around 4:15 p.m., forcing four people out of the SUV before taking one of their cell phones and driving off, according to prosecutors.
Less than an hour later, Moore pointed his .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun at the driver of a 2009 Jaguar XF, and screamed, “Get the f*** out of the car, I’m taking your car. Leave the phone,” according to prosecutors.
After stealing the Jaguar and that driver’s phone, Moore crashed into several parked cars.
Around 5:30 p.m., he carjacked a 2016 Ford Escape SE at gunpoint, and drove off.
About 20 minutes later, he tried to carjack a 2010 Nissan Maxima at a stop light near Oak and Rush streets, and shot the 37-year-old driver in the right arm, before running off.
Finally, around 6 p.m., he tried to carjack a 2016 Mercedes Benz S550 while the 84-year-old driver was sitting in traffic on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, according to prosecutors. Moore shot the driver in the back of his left shoulder when the victim sped off.
Police officers responding to the carjacking spree later arrested Moore in the lobby of a Gold Coast apartment building.
